Cambodia's Per Capita Annual Income May Exceed $3,000 Next Year

According to Cambodian media, the Ministry of Finance recently released a report stating that the national per capita annual income in 2026 is expected to increase from $2,896 in 2025 to $3,071, reflecting the positive trend of sustained economic growth in recent years.

The report points out that in the medium term (2027 to 2028), Cambodia's economy is expected to maintain an average annual growth rate of about 5.6%. The main drivers include the continued recovery of export services, expansion of textile and non-textile manufacturing exports, and the development of emerging markets outside the United States. Meanwhile, ongoing market structure adjustments will also enhance economic resilience and the overall business environment's risk resistance.

Cambodian Royal Academy economist Sereivas explained the report by saying that the increase in people's income is not only reflected in statistics but also in real life. For example, in 2000, a bowl of rice noodles cost 3,500 riels (about $0.88), but now it has reached 10,000 riels (about $2.5). If 100 bowls are sold daily, the operator's daily income has increased from 350,000 riels (about $87.5) to 1,000,000 riels (about $250).

He further pointed out that this trend means an increase in residents' actual cash income, not just nominal growth. For example, factory workers earn about $200 per month, with an annual income close to $3,000, which aligns with the per capita annual income level.

Industry insiders generally believe that with steady macroeconomic development and continuous income growth, Cambodia is expected to move toward the goal of becoming a middle-to-high-income country in the coming years.
