Petongtan Appeared In Court Today

Suspended Prime Minister Petongtan Shinawatra appeared in court on August 21, 2025, facing charges from the Constitutional Court regarding her mishandling of the Cambodia-Thailand border conflict.

Senators accused her of "lack of professional competence and violation of ethical standards" during the border crisis, which led to the most severe bilateral military bloodshed in decades.

The Constitutional Court is expected to decide by the end of August whether to officially remove her from the prime minister position. Petongtan, 38, is another leader facing the risk of stepping down due to court rulings after succeeding the former prime minister.
