Suhail Star Rises Over the Arabian Peninsula, Marking the End of the Long Summer in the UAE
As the dawn of Sunday morning spreads across the Arabian Peninsula, a bright star quietly lights up the southern sky — Suhail, a yellow-white supergiant about 313 light-years from Earth. With a brightness second only to Sirius, it once again becomes the "seasonal messenger" in the eyes of desert dwellers.
The Jeddah Astronomy Society announced that this star, regarded by Arabs as a "harbinger of change," first rose in the early hours of August 24. In Arab culture, its appearance is etched into collective memory, signaling the gradual end of the long summer and heralding the arrival of cooler nights.
