Thai Government Launches Cryptocurrency to Thai Baht Program

The Thai government is launching the "TouristDigiPay" program, allowing foreign tourists to exchange cryptocurrency for Thai Baht for electronic payments to promote the development of the tourism industry.

To participate, tourists must open accounts with regulated digital asset and electronic money providers and undergo strict Know Your Customer (KYC) and anti-money laundering checks.

The program operates within a regulatory "sandbox" and implements protective measures such as monthly spending limits and prohibiting direct cash withdrawals to prevent financial crimes. This service will allow tourists to convert their digital assets into Thai Baht and make electronic payments, for example, by scanning QR codes.
