A 5.4 magnitude earthquake struck Bangkok on August 21 at a depth of 10 kilometers (10 kilometers from Myanmar). Thai officials and employees working in high-rise buildings were evacuated for fear of building collapse.

The quake, with a magnitude of 5.4 and a depth of 10 kilometers, struck off the southern coast of Myanmar, about 211 kilometers southwest of Mae Sot district in Ta Phu, according to Thailand's Meteorological Department's seismic monitoring unit. Authorities warned that the quake could hit other areas and urged people to remain vigilant.
