UAE: Use Untrusted Free WiFi with Caution, Over 12,000 Cyber Intrusions Occurred This Year

Abu Dhabi, Emirates News Agency, August 24, 2025 – The UAE Government Cybersecurity Committee issued a warning on the 24th, reminding the public to be cautious when using untrusted open free WiFi networks, stating that such networks pose serious security risks. Statistics show that more than 12,000 cyber intrusion incidents through such networks have occurred in the UAE this year.

The committee pointed out that this number accounts for about 35% of the total cyberattacks suffered by the UAE, indicating that hackers and cyber intruders are using these networks as effective tools to steal user passwords, banking information, and personal data.

The committee emphasized that unsafe use of untrusted open free WiFi networks may directly lead to the leakage of users' personal and financial information, so advanced protective measures must be taken, especially the use of trusted VPN applications.
